Having arrived 11 weeks early they spent the first three months of their lives in the NICU at UCSD. We couldn’t have asked for a more caring and compassionate team. Today we are celebrating the girls birthday by taking allergy safe treats from @starrylane_bakery to the NICU staff. Happy 25th birthday Danielle and happy heavenly birthday Natalie 💜🩷

Today marks 10 years since Natalie died from anaph Today marks 10 years since Natalie died from anaphylaxis. I can hardly believe that we have lived without her for 10 whole years. July 27th, 2013 seems like just yesterday. I can still hear her funny laugh and long to be able to hold her in my arms. I wonder where life would have taken her and what she would be doing...

Over the last 10 years I have spent countless nights awake thinking about the "what ifs". Often these are the thoughts that aren't terribly helpful to one who is grieving.

This year I was thinking about all of the positive "what ifs" that we have experienced in the last 10 years. "What ifs" that I would have not thought possible 10 years ago. The progress that we as a community have made in allergy awareness, research, laws and community are inspiring.

They bring me hope. More work is yet to be done but we have come so very far.
We recently traveled to the UK on vacation. It was a trip I would have hesitated to take years ago because of worry about the "what ifs". However, this trip was filled with positive "what ifs" and I wanted to share.

What if, you booked a hotel and called to ask if they could accommodate Danielle's peanut and tree nut allergy at their Afternoon Tea and were told yes!
What if, when you arrived at the hotel you were personally greeted and told the entire staff was aware of Danielle's food allergies and great care would be taken on all fronts during our stay.

What if, when you walk into your room an employee had taken the time to personally go shop (at 3 different locations) to buy allergy safe snacks for Danielle.
What if, you went to Afternoon Tea and an allergy safe personal tray was individually prepared and presented to Danielle. Thank you @milestone_hotel for creating such wonderful memories.

We had the opportunity to visit Intentional Foods We had the opportunity to visit Intentional Foods (@intentionalfoods) yesterday while we are on spring break in Arizona. Intentional Foods mission is to create a place so that every person has an opportunity to enjoy good food, sit all together, and join family and friends- free from anxiety around food allergies. My daughter Danielle was able to order a sandwich, which isn’t usually safe! The food was amazing and the story behind it is even better. Thank you to Mama Lisa and Chef Ned for helping us feel so welcome. It is so special when you can find a place that is allergy free and we wish each of our communities had an Intentional Foods! 💜
